Nukes

13

u/ManningBurner Jan 28 '23

There’s a theory out there that the reason we haven’t had a world war since WWII is because of nukes. Mutually assured destruction tends to make countries sort things out politically before it comes to war.

3

u/ContributionDry2252 Jan 28 '23

Yah, it has worked so far. But at the moment, it doesn't seem so certain anymore when nukes are discussed as a real option.

5

u/ManningBurner Jan 28 '23

It’s called saber rattling and is a great example of why nukes do work. If not for nukes, the US would 100% have joined the fight in Ukraine with boots on the ground.

2

u/draculamilktoast Jan 28 '23

1984 deals with this theme, predicting that the three superpowers of the world will wage endless wars in the proxy states between them. Not letting those proxy states have nukes is a synonym for supporting waging endless wars in them.

-5

u/butwhynotonce Jan 28 '23

Childhood hunger

4

u/MrFBI9 Jan 28 '23

Well, yeah, but I feel like hunger covers that already.

-3

u/butwhynotonce Jan 28 '23

I'll be honest. Someone deciding between eating and gambling or eating and feeding their addiction is not the same as their child not eating.

I understand people have demons. I've been there. But that isn't a 4 year olds fault.

But technically, you're right, you've cornered the market on all the hungers.

5

u/MrFBI9 Jan 28 '23

The question was, What should not exist?, I only answered hunger because I believe in our day and age hunger should be obsolete. And I mean hunger as in hungry hunger... It has nothing to do with gambling or homelessness or anything outside of being hungry.. humanity as a whole produces food in abundance. Not one person should ever starve to death in our era.

2

u/MrFBI9 Jan 28 '23

On a secondary note, addiction is a bitch and I do agree that no child should ever be hungry, hunger should also not be seen as a fault to said addict. Yes they chose to do drugs/ alcohol, or whatever has put them in said problem but there is such an abundance of food around the world where I am that hunger is an issue that just shouldn't be. Addiction is a fixable issue as long as we see it as a mental health issue. When we look at addicts as beneath us/ sub human type.. we should really take a look at ourselves. Sadly most people look at addicts/ homeless as a an unfixable problem not as a problem that needs to be helped.and help is key

3

u/VincentVanGTFO Jan 28 '23

A lot harder to heal from addiction or anything else on a poor diet. A lot of research has shown that when people eat proper nutrition, they make better choices. All ages.

Tax evading billionaires

9

u/ApeLincoln1999 Jan 28 '23

And billionaires in general

5

u/pamafa3 Jan 28 '23

I mean If someone manages to ammass such wealth without being scammy or hurting the working class, good for them

5

u/bigb1 Jan 28 '23

A billion seconds are over 30 years. It's not possible to amass that much money without ripping others off.

0

u/carryingon78 Jan 28 '23

Not possible, I have tried and unfortunately every time I get close to breaking through to that 1% class, someone is going to be hurt in the process..so I quit lol and now I'm just poor again 😢 but rich in empathy I guess

0

u/NumbSurprise Jan 28 '23

I doubt it’s possible. You don’t accumulate wealth and power to that degree without hurting people along the way.

2

u/squishy_sprite Jan 28 '23

had to look this up. I've been overwhelmingly itchy lately and it doesn't seem to be from any sort of directly physical source. is this the reason?

4

u/KeyKitty Jan 28 '23

Could be, could also be (depending on your location) it’s winter and the air is dry so you have slightly dry skin. Try a moisturizer or two before you see a neurologist.

2

u/squishy_sprite Jan 28 '23

ah, thank you! I do use moisturizer but probably not enough in the winter

menstruation

2

u/SylviaMarsh Jan 28 '23

If menstruation didn't exist, you wouldn't be here.

3

u/Impressive-Shake-761 Jan 28 '23

thanks for the bio lesson 101 i had no idea.

Edit: but also many animals do not have menstrual cycles. in fact, humans are kind of odd for having it as regular as we do. who is to say there’s not a way menstrual cycles could have not evolved.

4

u/KeyKitty Jan 28 '23

We menstruate to prevent cancers in our extremely fast cycling and long lasting fertility. We’re fertile roughly 3 days out of ever 28 days and that cycle can last anywhere for 30-40 years! Most mammals are fertile 1-4 times a year and fertility can range loosely (as in some more and some less but this is a rough average) anywhere between 5-30 years in the wild.
