Here's Marjorie Taylor Greene denying that she ever said Speaker Pelosi was a "traitor to our country" and then being presented with evidence that she, in fact, said that. đ˛âđŽâđ¸âđ¨â

I watched the whole thing. It was unbearable. Part of the pain was the experience of watching someone pull a Karen in a courtroom. âIâm not answering that, itâs speculativeâ is not for a witness to say, and by this point, everyone has given up trying to correct her and let the attorney control her, which he did pretty well.
Another part was watching her lie so badly. Thereâs a pain to watching someone be evil, and a second pain watching someone do it badly. Sheâs horrendously stupid. She is stupid because she has never had to be smart. She has never had to do anything but be blonde and entitled.
There is a pain in sitting through her smugness. Throughout the testimony it was clear she thought she was winning. Because, in a horrible way, she probably was winning the war as she lost this battle.
And the last pain was watching this manifestation of white supremacy, knowing that no one who didnât want to see would. It is so clear to me that this is a woman raised in a Georgia where you just donât question white women like this, and because itâs not a racial topic, no one will see it that way except those who already have the eye to.
It was unbearable and I have already forgotten what the trial was about because of the constant storm of shit these fascists have unleashed on us.

Thank you for you comment this was truely terrifying. The part that resonated most with me was
She is stupid because she has never had to be smart. She has never had to do anything but be blonde and entitled.
Hair colour notwithstanding she has never had to be anything but entitled, bold and willing to use any means to get ahead. The fact that I live in a world where this would be emboldened, encouraged and deemed appropriate to serve in a position of power is equal measures of saddening and terrifying.

If he never pays for his multitude of crimes. Well you cannot deny some people are just immune to prosecution. The implications we are a democracy in name only become undeniable.
That changes a lot of long held beliefs and loyalties in a multitude of people. I do not think the GOP or our government entire grasp that.

17
u/oiwefoiwhef 2d ago
Right, because to them, everybody has the urges that they have towards the same sex.
They donât realize that theyâre experiencing those feelings because theyâre homosexual (and thatâs totally ok!).
But theyâve âsuccessfully suppressedâ those feelings and have not acted upon those emotions.
They assume that âactual homosexualsâ just donât have the same level of will power that they have to suppress those urges. Theyâve fought those urges their entire life and look down upon the people who âcanât fight the urges that everyone experiencesâ towards the same sex.

u/kaci3po 2d ago
Sometimes I think about a scene from the movie "but I'm a cheerleader" where the main character first realizes she's a lesbian. At first she outright denies it as a possibility -- "everyone just thinks I am." Then she's asked if she thinks about girls and she says "sure, but everyone does. Everyone thinks about girls all the time!" It's not until one of the other characters counters "but you only ASSUME that they're thinking of them the same way as you. They're not" that she realizes. Because in the world she grew up in, straight was considered such the default that when she thought of girls like that, she could logically only conclude that this must just be how every other girl thinks, and everyone must just be walking around all the time, suppressing and ignoring their desires. She didn't even realize she was gay until her parents shipped her off to straight camp.

Which in turn allows the actual people who want to actually do damage and make changes for the worst to continue destroying the government.

Any country that does not prioritize the education of its citizens cannot truly be called a first world country. Over the last few decades, the US government and Oligarchs (and Canada is getting there as well) have made it so much harder and more expensive to get a post-secondary education, to the point some people literally can't. With this, I feel like we're seeing the effects of an undereducated population and just how easy it is to take advantage of and use them, which I firmly believe was/is the goal. It's much harder to control a population that has been taught critical thinking.
America is slowly becoming a third world country for the majority of citizens, with a seperate first world life for the rich

My girlfriend and I got into the show they made off of HMT, and we never finished it. It was too foreboding, to be honest, it hit too close to reality. At first, I thought "oh, thats cool, another suspenseful dystopian thriller", but then we started pondering how things could reach that point, and some harsh realities are there. Look at Iran pre-'79.
Then I looked at the cultural climate at the time, and realized the position that we may be in someday. It was a dose of reality that I hadn't really considered up to that point, and it was pretty bleak. Fantastic story, more people need to at least encounter it. Although, I guess some people may watch it and fantasize about how much they want that type of world, which is the other edge to the sword. Where some of us see horror in those stories, others may see a "proper world", which is fucked but true.
→ More replies10
u/Politics_Marvel 2d ago
Yeah I couldn't watch it for the same reason. Started getting a little too reminiscent of the current political climate and narratives being pushed/ actions taken by people on the right.
Jan 6 would've been their real world takeover day if it had gone how they wanted, like when the Gilead people bombed the White House and staged a mass shooting in Congress in the story. The Trump supporting terrorists were looking to take elected officials hostage and then execute them by hanging them, specifically Mike Pence.
In the show/book, the Gilead people spun the attack they committed as islamic extremist terrorism, in the real world the Trump people tried to say it was actually antifa dressed as Trump people who were attacking the capitol, or that it was just a quiet peaceful protest, a sightseeing tour.
In the book, the Gilead crowd successfully infiltrates the US government to such a degree that after the attack happens, the majority of the remaining officials in the US are part of their cult, so they start instituting mandatory prayer and other overtly religious rules/laws almost immediately.
In the real world, we have the GOP who recently all voted in unison to prevent a government probe assessing how deeply white supremacist attitudes have infiltrated our military and police, and who now regularly equate support for LGBTQ rights with pedophilia, and then handwave away constant mass shootings committed against minorities, women and the LGBTQ community by radicalized men who share their prejudiced attitudes.
This is after all, still a heavily white majority country. Income inequality is getting worse and worse every year, and the discontent and anger the white majority feels about their declining standards of living is being used as a weapon by the likes of Fox News and right wing media + politicians.
→ More replies6
u/Point_Forward 2d ago
The paradox of tolerance is right wing propaganda. They want to convince you that being tolerant is a passive activity, something you allow others to have.
What we are interested in doing is creating tolerant spaces, which is an active activity, to oppose those being intolerant of others. To not tolerate intolerance, hate the sin not the sinner.

u/Ocksu2 2d ago
I live in Georgia and have a lot of family in her district. A Democrat stands no chance of winning that district and, frankly, there are no competent republicans there that would be any different than her.
She moved there specifically to run for office because she knew that the people there were mostly uneducated rural whites and that saying asinine stuff would get her an easy win. The voters there think she is great and is doing a great job "owning the libs".

speculation means the same in a legal sense as it does in the everyday normal usage sense. Objecting to a question on the grounds of "speculation" simply means that the objector believes the question improperly calls for answers and conclusions based primarily on assumptions and not entirely on the facts that are properly in evidence. It has no relation to the context of this video clip where the questioner is simply asking the witness whether she ever made a particular statement. It is obvious that MTG simply moronically blurted out a cliche television-drama "legal" sounding word in response. As the witness, it is not even proper for her to make this objection, even if it was somehow applicable to the question.

She's actually repeating everything that everyone in the proceeding is saying. Yes, she's using speech recognition software to make an initial transcript in real time, and that will be edited later by a scopist to produce the final transcript.

Why don't they just use a microphone to get a recording of the actual speakers?
Edit: I guess with similar voices it could be hard to tell who's speaking.

Some really great reasons from the article:
Some of the most compelling reasons from the article were:
Being able to ask them to read back what was said just moments earlier. Something still sort of a pain with pure audio.
Being able to discriminate voices. Imagine a raucous Senate hearing in chambers with overlapping speakers. A recording could be very hard to untangle. Or even something like 'below-knee pain' vs 'baloney pain'.
They are more than a recorder, they are sort of like a professional witness.

This hearing was such a joke. I watched it live and had to turn it off halfway through because the Georgia judge was so unbelievably biased towards her it was unreal.
The judge spent the entire time sneering/smirking at the prosecution, threw out nearly every argument against her (no matter how relevant), upheld nearly every objection by the defense (no matter how flimsy), bantered on the stand with MTG, allowed two outbursts by her cheering entourage without throwing them out of the courtroom, and allowed MTG to straight up lie on the stand by claiming "I don't recall" to every question she didn't want to answer (despite clear evidence that she did recall and made those statements multiple times).
She and that judge have no business serving... The Founding Fathers would weep.

It is the entitlement here that actually disgusts me the most. She is a witness. She is being asked questions by an attorney. Her role in this situation is to answer questions from that attorney and, if possible, to explain her answers. If there is a question from that attorney that is against the rules of civil procedure then it is the role of her attorney to then object and to clearly state the rule and reason for the objection. The judge will then determine whether the question is or is not against those rules and either direct her, the witness, to answer or to ignore the question and for the attorney to move on.
It is not her role to decide that she will not answer a question because, by her own determination, it violates a rule of civil procedure (which, by the way, it did not call for speculation as she alleged). That she thinks she is just entitled to ignore questions just because she doesn't like them really grinds my gears. I really wish the judge had stopped her right there and told her that she is not the judge and that she does not get to interpret the rules of civil procedure in his/her court and that she will answer the question unless directed not to by the judge.

F NO!

If she was under oath, that was perjury. She stated she never said something, despite knowing she did. It is clear she knew she did, because she rushed to change her statement before the tape was played.

You can clearly state by her facial expressions and face lines that she is not inteligent person. Not to mention her speeches.

As an amateur Phrenologist, I can tell she has the forehead width of a stable goat, the nose of an unchaste Moravian, and the mouth of a Turkish Taffy puller.

There is a level of unknown danger to these kind of ungodly dumb and yet some cunning people who are in the senate. Her face somehow is transparent to her true dark self and you can see in the moment she is caught in a lie, she goes on to justifying the lie and why she said it in the first place.
I can't stand this biblical error for more than few seconds.

At first she's trying to conceal a smile, maybe even hold back laughter. She thinks it's just as funny now as she did when she said it. She's doing a very bad job at trying to hide it, no better than a child. Maybe even a hint of dupers delight.
She collects herself, then deflects and denies.. even when it's so apparent she's caught in a lie. I can't believe we let people like this have any power at all over us.

"Hold on..." and then makes other accusations that are untrue... Biden's border guys have arrested more people trying to enter the USA illegally than ANY previous president. Obama's was higher than Trumps and caused a lot of outrage in the immigrant communities, remember the kids in cages? The border topic is just a dog whistle for racists anymore, and a complete nothing-burger in reality.
